Homemade Halloween

Every year for Halloween, I have great intentions of making the kid's costumes. I just never get around to actually doing it.

This year, I finally did!

For Caleb, I knew instantly what I was going to make: Lightning McQueen. I've never seen any kid so obsessed with any one thing as much as my child is about the movie 'Cars'. It's borderline ridiculous. But I saw a homemade costume last year that I didn't have time to make:

This costumes wasn't too difficult to make. I made it on a smaller scale. The only real pain was that I left the logo part of the box on the outside like a big doofus, so it took a lot of paint to cover over! It took me about 20 minutes to cut out and tape together, the painting was a little time consuming and finding the logos online to print and glue took a bit too, but it turned out so cute!

So cute, right?

Now Faith's costume was a little more time consuming then I thought, but not by much. Luckily, a sweet friend of mine who is a MUCH better seamstress than me helped with the design. If I had done it all myself, it would have looked much more ghetto. Painting I can do. Sewing, notsomuch. Anyway, One pink shirt, a pair of brown tights, and some felt later, I had myself a beautiful little cupcake.

Faith got it in her head somewhere that she wanted to be a cupcake for Halloween. So we looked up some homemade cupcake costumes, and she picked out the one she liked best (and she was quite picky about them). She definitely chose the cutest one though:

Mine isn't nearly as fancy, but I think it turned out pretty cute! Faith approved anyway!

Again, not very fancy, but I am still proud! And I didn't have a sewing machine, so Faith's costume was hand stitched with a lot of hot glue!

I feel so accomplished, I think I will definitely try to make costumes next year too!

Weekend in Indiana

This weekend, my friend Sarah and I made a little trip to Anderson, Indiana to visit some of our best friends who recently moved there.

We had a great time just chillin', watching movies, doing each other's hair, making cookies, eating cookies, and playing games. Saturday afternoon was a beautiful overcast day, so we decided to take some pictures down the street. They were just too cute not to share! We took SO MANY, but here are some of my favorites:

Genna and Faith: they were just as excited as we were to get together!

These girls are so goofy together!

The beautiful Sarah and me

A favorite of my princess

A friend of ours captioned this photo as: "I'm having twins!" LOL

Had a little photo shop fun with this one

This photo is everything I love about Vicki

Love our eyes in this photo

I am blessed with some beautiful friends! So glad we could capture some of our weekend with photos!

Homemade Applesauce

The hubs grew up on homemade, good eatin'.
One of those treasures he had every year was homemade applesauce. Now, I don't usually like to attempt making his family recipes, because they never quite compare (there are a few I have mastered though), but we were determined to stock up on some applesauce this year.

It's such a fun family thing to do!
From picking the apples together, and letting the kids help mush them in the applesauce maker, to taste testing, we had a blast...even if it did take us a few hours.

First, we picked the apples. Got some Gala, McIntosh, and Golden Delicious:

The hubs was so excited to get started:

All cut up and ready to boil:

Now, taking turns mushing the apples with the applesauce maker (this is long and tedious part!):

 And....YUM!

Faith approves:

 Caleb approves:

This year's batches were WAY better than the ones we made 2 years ago - I think the McIntosh apples made the best applesauce so far. Tart and sweet, the perfect combo.

Even with all these apples, I don't think it's gonna last long!

Russian Roulette in my pants

Well, I am now 22 weeks, this is me:

I am feeling pretty good. I am still always exhausted, but I think that is the combination of being preggers, chasing after two kids, teaching preschool, working in a child center, and lack of sleep. When added together, they're lethal.

My appetite over the last few weeks has been insane! I'm trying to watch it, but I can't ever seem to be full. Luckily, my busy schedule helps distract me from wanting to eat everything around me.

Carter is starting to move a lot more, which is so fun! The hubs felt him move for the first time two weeks ago, but hasn't since - every time he puts his hand on my tummy, he stops moving! I haven't been able to feel him on the outside with my hand for that very same reason. Little stinker.

I haven't had to get up in the middle of the night to pee very much yet, but I do have to be careful when I sneeze, or laugh too hard, ifyaknowwhatimean...

Last night, the hubs and I were driving in the car, and I sneezed. He said "You okay? Did you make it?" As to which I replied "Yeah that was close. I just never know anymore, gotta be careful. It's like Russian Roulette in my pants."

Ah, the joys of pregnancy....

My Matt Damon

So a long time ago, I promised a side-by-side of my hubs and Matt Damon, because I think that's the hub's celebrity look alike. And I got a really sweet comment on my SITS day to convince me to do it:

panamamama said...

Your hubs really does look like Matt Damon! Great taste! :)

So, I guess I better get on it. Without further ado:

Do you see the similarity? I think it's the smile and the eyes. Now, let's be clear: Just because the hubs reminds me of Matt Damon, doesn't mean I'd kick Matt Damon outta bed. Just sayin'.

Toddler Translator - 3rd Edition

My kids are known for their hilarious stories and ridiculous pronunciations. They're my favorite. So, if you're ever around my children and wonder what they're talking about, let me break it down for you:

"Infective" - Infected
Faith told me if I chewed my nails, my fingers would get 'infective'!

"Expendo" - Extendo
Not that either are words, but Caleb asked me if I had 'Expendo' arms to reach the steering wheel when I drive! LOL

"Rainvo" - Rainbow
"Festible" - Festival
"Carnible" - Carnival
"Octover" - October
"Cuvy" - Cubby
It seems we have issue swapping our b's and v's...

"Bapsized" - Baptized
"Banilla" - Vanilla
Caleb always asks for a 'Banilla Bar' for snack.

"Mushstash" - Mustache
I can't make fun of my kids too much for this one, cause I do it once in awhile too! LOL

"Formia" - Formula
"Cups of Cheeno" - Cappuccino
Faith has a baby My Little Pony who drinks pretend 'Cups of Cheeno' out of her bottle because she's allergic to baby 'formia'!

"Brathe" - Brave
Faith watched me get my finger poked for an hemoglobin test with a very concerned look on her face (she is severely afraid of needles). When I told her not to worry, she asked "Are you brathe mommy?"

I never correct them when they mispronounce these things, and I usually repeat it back exactly the way they say it to me (it usually corrects itself over time, and it's just too much fun!). I wonder at what age these mispronunciations stop being cute and start becoming worrisome...

The List Revised

Last year, I did a post about my list. I had such a great response from it (cause let's be honest, who doesn't look drooling over yummy celebrities?) that I wanted to check back in with my revised list.

My list has changed. I knew it would, it usually does. However, check back to my other list because those guys are still in the running for sure. Here's some updated list worthy celebs:

1. Gerard Butler
source

I am utterly embarrassed that I forgot to mention him on my last list, because Gerard has quickly become my #1 over the last year. I don't know what it is: The sexy accent? The 5 o'clock shadow (which I love on almost any man)? The abs? Okay, so maybe I do know! The verdict is still out on whether or not I think he'd be a good guy in real life, but if I ever met him in real life, that probably wouldn't be my concern while I was chasing him down the street! YUM.

2. Brian McKnight
source

Call me crazy, but this crush goes back to middle school. I have always had a thing for Brian McKnight. Do I think he's sexy? Absolutely. I have been known to stare at this album cover for hours undisclosed amounts of time. But it's his voice that I'm really in love with. If he sang one note in my presence, I'm pretty sure I would melt to the floor on the spot. Anybody with me?

3. Hugh Jackman

I've always thought Hugh Jackman was cute. But what really jolted him into a list worthy position was when I recently watched X-Men Origins: Wolverine. LOVED that movie, and loved him in it even more. Love his talent. And the fact that he's been nominated for sexiest man alive helps too. It means I'm not crazy. And there is nothing sexier in the world than a man who loves his family.

4. Justin Timberlake

Gotta give a shout out to my boy band favorite since day 1- Justin Timberlake. Thankfully, he's not like most teeny bopper crushes, when you look back and think, "Why on earth did I have such a thing for that guy?" Not Justin, he gets better with age. Another man that could make me melt with his voice (and I have separate list for voices alone), he has a great sense of style and an even better sense of humor. And have you seen him dance? I can't stop looking once he starts. Definitely a keeper.

5. Chris Evans

This is my wild card selection. He's new, he's young, he's got all the right stuff. I actually fell in love with him after catching him in 'The Nanny Diaries' one late night when nothing else was on. And given my love for action films, I definitely loved him in 'The Fantastic Four'. My favorite line from one of the celebrity lists I found him on: "If he's hot enough to play the Human Torch, he's hot enough for us." I concur!

Well, I think that sums it up for now. Am I missing anyone? I'd like to know who you think should be on the list - I haven't laminated it yet!

Kids say the darndest things...

Ah....
I love when I get enough material for another post about the hilarious things my kids say!

source

1. I've already told this story once, but it's worth sharing again. Faith asked me when I was gonna start breaking the house. When I asked her what she meant, she said "Well, you keep getting bigger!" (Referring to my growing belly, just to clarify)

2. Faith heard a plane outside the house and peeked out the front window to check it out. Since it was dark, she also noticed some spotlights moving around (probably for haunted houses in the area), and at first said "Mommy, I think there's more lights." After a few seconds of watching, she started breathing heavy and freaking out. She ran out of the room screaming "Mommy, I think I'm scared!" After looking out with her and explaining what the lights were, she told me she thought they were monster lights. Poor thing. She's scared of everything.

3. Bless their hearts, they listen to every word I say. And I'll be first to admit that I'm not perfect, so once in awhile, they'll hear me say 'stupid' or 'I hate this...', and 'freakin'. Now, I wish I could claim that I started this phrase, but it really stops me in my tracks: Caleb has started telling me "Mommy, Jesus doesn't like when we say that." Thanks buddy. You're absolutely right.

4. At church this week, I handed Caleb a dollar and said "Here ya go bubba, this is for you to give to God." to which Caleb replied, "But where's God?" I tried to explain that God is everywhere and that He can see us but we can't see him, and that God lives in his heart. "Where is my heart?" little curious George insisted. I pointed to the middle of his chest right before he started lifting up his shirt in the middle of service to LOOK for it, and God!
If that wasn't cute enough, at the admonition song, I let Caleb stand on the pew in front of me, and I was tapping to the beat on his chest while singing. Caleb started getting really upset, turned around and shouted at me, "Mommy, don't hurt God!" =]

Never a dull moment with children, right?
